Work From Home: Great for the company... Is it as great for you?

I recently read the blog: Working in Pajamas: The Downside of Telecommuting, by Noreen Seebacher and echo many of her sentiments with some caveats. 

Most Productive from Home

Working from home (WFH), I didn't feel the pressure to get out of there and get home, because I was already there.  I wasn't constantly interrupted like I at the office.    Any company that isn't embracing WFH, isn't looking hard enough at their bottom line.  It's highly productive and great for the bottom line, as the productivity is astronomical.

The Real Downside of WFH

The real downside was the lack of exercise and I found I put into too much work for the company.  You had no reason to get dressed every day.  Everybody I talked to about this has said the same thing.  The company makes out like a bandit in the WFH situation. 

Balance

I found the best was working from home 4 days a week and at the office at least once a week.

Pay it Forward....The Hidden Jobs Network

In 2009,  there was not a job to be found.  I started forwarding jobs via email, to my network. When the list got to big to forward (over 250),  I started posting them to a groupsite.  Since then I have moved it to the linkedin group.  And we continue to post them on linkedin  And alot of folks, once they find a job, often drop off that network.  Don't drop-off keep on posting those jobs. 

So, you may wonder, why I would bother to keep posting those jobs, even after I had gainful employment. Why bother to post all these jobs there for job hunters to follow and see when I'm gainfully employed? Because I am passionate about it.

Embrace your passions... explore the possibilities... welcome the adventure.

I know how it is to look for a job. I know that this is a terrible economy to try to find gainful employment in. I know what it is like to have to deal with unprofessional recruiters.  And I hope to help fellow job seekers avoid that head-ache or at least be able to get a little chuckle from the job hunting experience. And I know that to pull out of this bad economy we all need to work together and this little part is my contribution for the greater good.

One of my first mentors, Steve Koss, was really tough on me about giving back. He had me watch the movie, "Pay it Forward". It all goes back to that common Christian message of love and kindness. He is right, it is just the right thing to do.

I need to acknowledge my inspiration and source of a lot of what you will see here in this blog. These folks are true leaders who continue to "Pay it Forward" and remind me everytime I get another job forwarded, career tip or network introduction: Tom Ward, Christian Johnson and Suzanne Dalton. Just wanted to say thank you for all you have done for me and others. You are an inspiration to me. And also to acknowledge that I am posting and referencing your forwarded, jobs, tips and advice here.
